Revolutionary Advanced Processing Image Detection (RAPID)

Current technology inundates Intelligence Analysts (IAs) with enormous volumes of imagery, which they visually filter through to identify relevant targets that indicate suspicious activity. The Revolutionary Advanced Processing Image Detection (RAPID) system is designed to substantially enhance both image throughput and analysis accuracy by incorporating neurophysiology measurement techniques into a closed-loop system that tracks the imagery analysis process and automatically identifies specific areas of interest within reviewed images. RAPID incorporates two distinct neurophysiology instruments, specifically electroencephalography event-related potentials (EEG/ERP) and eye tracking technology that together will revolutionize the efficiency and effectiveness of the image analysis process. This report covers progress made in the development of the RAPID system from August 2006 through December 2008. Because of early termination of the contract, a fully functional, validated software program has not been completed. However, great strides in research and development have been made that provides a solid foundation for future system development and implementation.
