Advanced Brain Monitoring is developing platform technologies for rapid high throughput data acquisition and analysis that directly address the needs of researchers engaged in human subject studies of brain and behavior. These inexpensive, non-invasive methods offer the possibility of rapidly acquiring data from large populations of patients for epidemiological studies, diagnosing disease or for evaluating drugs or other treatment outcomes. Applications include: diagnostic and treatment outcome evaluations, pharmaceutical investigations, ergonomics and sports medicine, military/forensic research and educational/occupational studies. The Alertness and Memory Profiling (AMP) employs a multivariate approach, combining EEG metrics, neuropsychological performance and validated self-report inventories in an easy-to-administer set of protocols. In less than 5 hours, the AMP allows simultaneous acquisition and analysis of data that could require days or weeks with conventional laboratory methods.
The AMP system integrates EEG/EKG with behavioral and subjective measures in a platform designed for quantitative, objective assessment of neurocognitive functions including alertness, attention, learning and memory. The AMP has been proven useful in quantifying the changes in alertness, learning and memory associated with sleep deprivation in healthy subjects and as a biobehavioral assay for identifying those individuals most- and least-vulnerable to the effects of sleep deprivation. The AMP has also proven effective in characterizing the neurocognitive impairments in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and providing evidence of amelioration of cognitive impairments following treatment with CPAP or MAD (mandibular advancement devices).
